The year 2009 marks the 400th anniversary of the invention of Galileo's telescope, with which the great astronomer made monumental astronomical discoveries. It also marks the 100th anniversary of the line-of-duty death of NYC police detective Petrosino, who dedicated his career to fighting Italian-American crime organizations.

In accordance with our objectives and goals, the WCIAO coordinates and publishes, with the assistance of The Office of County Executive Andrew J. Spano, a Calendar of Events listing the many activities that take place to commemorate the month. The Calendar is distributed throughout the County to libraries, schools, Italian organizations and places of business so that all may join in on the many celebrations. All are welcome to submit their events to the WCIAO for publication in the calendar by sending an email to info@WCIAO.org.
